Rise Up: A 3-Day Devotional for Church Planters

DAY 2 OF 3

The Best Thing You Can Give Your Church is a Healthy Version of Yourself

As church planters, our commitment to building a vibrant community starts with ourselves. The truth is, the best gift you can offer your church is a healthy, whole version of yourself. This isn’t just about physical health, but emotional, spiritual, and mental well-being too.

When we were in the early stages of planting our church, I was often overwhelmed by the demands and pressures of leadership. I pushed through exhaustion, neglecting my own needs in the name of dedication. It wasn’t until I took a step back and focused on my health—both physical and spiritual—that I began to see a shift in my leadership. I realized that a leader who is running on empty can only give so much. But a leader who is thriving can inspire, guide, and nurture their team in profound ways.

In 1 Thessalonians 5:23, Paul prays for the whole person to be sanctified—spirit, soul, and body. It’s a reminder that our well-being affects every part of our lives and leadership. If we’re not taking care of ourselves, it’s hard to fully invest in others. Balance, rest, and personal growth aren’t just personal needs; they are critical to leading effectively and joyfully.

Invest in your own health and well-being as diligently as you invest in your church plant. Seek out spiritual practices that rejuvenate you, make time for physical activity, and ensure you have support systems in place. The healthier you are, the more effectively you’ll be able to serve your church and lead with passion.

Remember, taking care of yourself isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity. Your well-being is crucial to your ability to lead effectively. By prioritizing your health, you’re ensuring that you can give your best to your church and those you’re called to serve.

Prayer:

Lord, help me to prioritize my own health and well-being. Teach me to balance my personal needs with my responsibilities as a church planter. Guide me to practices that refresh my spirit, strengthen my body, and renew my mind. Let me lead from a place of wholeness so that I can fully invest in the lives of those You’ve entrusted to me. Amen.
