The influence of mothers
You can’t underestimate the impact of Moses’ mothers on his life and leadership. Their love enabled Moses to do the impossible: to rise to God's call to liberate a nation.
It can be said that the condition of women is the touchstone of civilized society. Mothers who condition their sons to search for the qualities in a wife you find in Proverbs will teach them to avoid pursuing superficial, beautiful, and vanishing charms in the women they choose.
I think of the women in my life – my mother, mother-in-law, and wife. I have been blessed beyond any expectation because they brightly reflect the Proverbs 31 woman. They have profoundly shaped me and enabled me to become the man I am today.
Here are some principles to consider about the value of mothers.
- Mothers who fear the Lord and obey his commands above all will be blessed and honored by the Lord. Their work harmonizes with the redemptive work of God in human history.
- Mothers solve problems but are wise when they depend on the Lord for help, too. Mothers with courage, innovation, and faith can shape the future of a nation.
- Mothers filled with faith always leave room for God to work in supernatural and surprising ways in their children’s lives.
- The best place for a child to grow and develop is in a family. Adoptive families fill the gap when living with one’s biological family is not possible. Where God guides, he also provides.
Being a mother is a high calling in life. Mothers are critically strategic in shaping leaders and nations.
- The home's well-being, which is managed well by its mother, reflects the nation. When families succeed, communities succeed.
- A wise and godly woman is to be celebrated.
Questions for Reflection:
- What are the most desirable characteristics of the women you admire?
- What kinds of problems do mothers solve every day?
- What is the best contribution a mother can make for her children?
- How do mothers shape the next generation?
- How can churches positively impact the health of a home or a family?
