False Self

DAY 2 OF 7

Identity and the False Self

To truly understand who you are, you have to go back to the beginning – God’s original plan for us.

As you watch this Lumo clip, consider what this story from Genesis teaches us about who God made us to be.

God’s Word tells us that He created human beings in His image, to be like Him. He made us to be rulers over His creation. He gave us the glorious task of representing Him in the world.

And, perhaps most astonishingly, the King of the universe created us to live in a personal relationship with Him. Under His ultimate authority, we are called to thrive in the goodness of God’s love.

The false self stands in direct contrast to these beautiful truths. The false self focuses on the lies that the enemy throws at us; lies that drive us away from God and away from our purpose.

When we believe the lies that say who we are is not enough, we begin chipping away at the foundation of our God-given identity: being unconditionally and unequivocally loved.

Reflection:

What in your life needs to be surrendered to God so you can better reflect His image?

Prayer:

God, thank You for creating me to be a part of Your family. You call me Your own, and that is what I am. Please show me the masks I have claimed that do not align with what You say is true. Amen.
