Fighting Loneliness: Created for Community & Meaningful Companionship

DAY 4 OF 4

Fighting Back

Here we are on the last day of this study. Let me re-emphasize the need for communion with God and community with one another.

The enemy wants us alone – his plan works best when we are isolated and disconnected.

After Jesus was baptized, He ventured alone into the wilderness and fasted for forty days. Although there are other points that this scenario can teach us, let us focus on the fact that Jesus was in a state of physical and emotional loneliness. Here we see satan coming to tempt Jesus while He was at His lowest. He was isolated and hungry in the dry and wearisome desert, but He was armed with God's Word and used the Word against satan (See Matt. 4:1-11, Luke 4:1-12).

When we go through a season of feeling lonely, whether that be physical or emotional loneliness, or a combination of both, the enemy will use this opportunity to strike. He will tell you lies, further cementing the feeling that you are isolated and causing you to see no way out.

Fight back with God's Word! Speak the Word over your life, heart, and mind…invite the Holy Spirit, the powering force of the Word, into the depth of your despair.

“Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand” - Isaiah 41:10 NKJV.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me, Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me” - Psalm 23:4 NKJV.

In Summary

Loneliness comes in various shades on the spectrum that is humanity. But we must know, we must believe, that God (Immanuel) is with us in the midst of it. He desires that we would not be lonely – that we would feel His presence encompass our being in such a way that it drives the loneliness out. God desires for us to live in a community where we bear one another’s burdens. Jesus modeled for us how we can applicably live this out in the day-to-day – by spending time communing with Our Father and cultivating meaningful relationships with each other.

Prayer

Father God, we thank You for the opportunity to come together on this platform to edify and encourage one another. We thank You for giving us Your Word, where the evidence is clear that You do not desire for us to be lonely, but that we would feel and know the comforting presence of Your Living Spirit. Lord Jesus, we thank You for modeling for us a life of communion with Our Father. In Jesus name, Amen.

Reflect:

What’s one thing you can do right now to battle loneliness and connect with someone?
