How to Grow Your Fire for GodSýnishorn
Keeping the fire of God burning within us requires us to take determination and action. In Acts 28, Paul is faced with the challenge of building a fire even when his circumstances are difficult.
I believe that this story highlights some important principles that we must understand if we are to have our fire for God continuously kindled.
In this passage, the apostle Paul had survived the storm and the shipwreck. Finally, he reached the island shore, and rain was pouring down. I’m sure that the cold rain is not as bad as a horrific fourteen-day storm and a disastrous shipwreck, but when you’re shivering in wet clothes, and you don’t have a warm house for shelter, it really does affect you. In Paul’s case, with the help of the locals, they started to build a bonfire.
I want you to notice that the rain didn’t stop them. In fact, the cold didn’t even stop them. Their goal was to build a fire, which was their only way of getting warm in the dark, chilly weather. And despite what they felt, they pushed through to build the fire.
You might be thinking, “I know I must build a spiritual fire, but you don’t understand my situation. I have been through a terrible storm. I’m not sure if I have the strength to build a fire again.”
I want to encourage you to realize that you can’t build a fire as long as you are making excuses. Remember, excuses are fire extinguishers.
Allow me to be completely honest: The storm is not your problem your excuses are!
I encourage you to examine your heart in prayer and allow the Lord to highlight areas in your life that may not be hindrances as much as they are excuses.
Let’s Pray:
Lord, help me to build a fire in my heart for You and to keep it burning strong. Give me the perseverance to continually add fuel to my spiritual fire.
