Set Your Eyes Higher - a 5 Day PlanSýnishorn
I remember my low moments, longing to feel like I was worthy and like I was enough. If I could perform perfectly at work or school make everyone happy earn others’ admiration and feel attractive (physically, socially, and, of course, romantically), maybe then I would believe that I was worthy of God’s love. Maybe then I would start to live like it.
Unfortunately, if you’re waiting to feel sufficient, you will always be waiting. For me to finally feel like I was enough, I needed to look at the love of Jesus. The solution to my internal scarcity was to stop looking at myself and start looking at the abundance found in Him.
So I want to share the gospel with you today: Jesus died on the cross to restore you to health and free you into abundant, joyful living. God has never needed you to be good enough; His Son bore the burden for you. Not on that, but God, in His rich mercy, decided in His steadfast love that you were enough for that history-altering, earth-shattering sacrifice. God didn’t choose Israel as His own because they were a perfect nation; He chose them because when this small, otherwise insignificant people flourished (often against all odds), it pointed to His power and steadfast love (Deuteronomy 7:7–9; 1 Corinthians 1:26–31). That’s the design for your life too. As the gospel always is, this message is profoundly countercultural, but when you embrace the knowledge you need a Savior, you will experience fresh abundance and joy.
I have never been strong enough to climb out of the pit by myself. Most of the time, I find myself digging the pit deeper, shovel in hand. When it comes to that slimy pit from Psalm 40, I am unable to help myself—the definition of “not enough.”
But Jesus has chosen to sit at the edge, calling my name. The Conqueror of death and the King of heaven has decided I am worth His time, that I am enough to Him. . . . He has taken my place and traded my burden, and that’s the kind of abundance He’s calling you into right now. Set your eyes higher.
Prayer
Lord, You have decided to make me worthy. You have decided that I am enough. I am setting my eyes higher, squarely on Your love and mercy for me. Thank You, Lord Jesus. Amen.
