Daily Bible Reading— August 2024, God’s Guiding Word: FaithSýnishorn
August 1
Introduction
Joshua 1:1–18: The book of Joshua is the story of how the Israelites entered Canaan under the leadership of Joshua, the successor to Moses. In today’s reading, Joshua is assured that the LORD will be with him as the people prepare to occupy the land God had promised to their ancestors.
Today’s Key Verse: Joshua 1:9b
“Do not be afraid or discouraged, for I, the LORD your God, am with you wherever you go.”
Reflect
What does the LORD promise Joshua? What instructions is Joshua given? Why is Joshua told to be determined and confident (verse 9)? How often do the words “be determined and confident” appear in today’s reading? What are your thoughts about the significance of these words? Knowing that he was chosen to succeed Moses, what might Joshua have been thinking? What challenges do people today face when they take over for someone famous and successful?
Pray
Lord God, you are with me wherever I go. With determination, I heed your voice and obey your will. Confident in your steadfast love and care, I need not be afraid or discouraged. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
Joshua 2:1–24: Joshua sends spies into Jericho.
