Act Like a Man: 9 Ways to Punch Life in the Mouth

DAY 10 OF 10

The “Act Like a Man” Plan

As we conclude this study on being a Godly man, I want to encourage you to make a plan. The difference between information and transformation is action. The following is a homework exercise for you to meet with God and get clear direction on your next steps in your walk with God.

James 2:20 [TLB] is a verse we like a lot at RealFaith Ministries: “Faith that does not result in good deeds is not real faith.” You need to do the following to prepare for this sacred meeting with God:

  1. Get a time set aside on your calendar to meet with God.
  2. Ask a few friends or family members to pray for your meeting with God.
  3. When the day comes for your meeting with God, turn your phone off, find a quiet place, and plan on spending a few hours praying and listening. Feel free to revisit areas of this Bible Plan that the Holy Spirit highlighted for your attention in the days leading up to your meeting with God.
  4. Write out what you believe God is asking you to do to become the man of God He is calling you to be. I would encourage you to sit down in prayer, ask the Holy Spirit to help you get a list of action steps you need to take, number them in order of priority, and get to work!
  5. Take your time and prayerfully complete the following assignment. The pattern we will be using is the “put off” and “put on” of Ephesians 4:22-24. At the end of your meeting with God, covenant in prayer that you will put your plan into practice and be obedient in walking out the steps God has given you.

Put Off

  1. What are the top bad habits, sins, or unhealthy patterns in your life that need to change? (e.g., drinking too much alcohol, staying up too late, spending too much time online, watching porn, gambling, arguing with people on social media, leaving the news on all day blasting anxiety into your life, etc.)
  2. What are the top bad habits, sins, or unhealthy patterns in your life that need to change? (e.g., drinking too much alcohol, staying up too late, spending too much time online, watching porn, gambling, arguing with people on social media, leaving the news on all day blasting anxiety into your life, etc.)

Put On

  1. What are your top priorities in order, and is your life reflecting those priorities? (e.g., Christian, husband, father, grandfather, church member, employee, son, brother, friend, etc.)
  2. What are the top good habits you need to be consistently practicing? (e.g., reading your Bible, praying with your wife and kids, being actively involved in a good church, exercising, eating healthy, scheduling a regular date night, making sure family dinner is happening together, taking a weekly Sabbath day off, turning your phone off, etc.)

If you’re married, I would encourage you to run your plan by your wife and, depending on their age and maturity level, your kids, as they’ll be a great barometer for you. Be willing to humbly receive their feedback and repent of areas you’ve been blind to. If you’re not married, pray for your future wife and kids as part of this assignment.

Your next step is to prayerfully reflect on each of the questions above and then complete those missions. Make it your aim, as the Father’s son, to seek to become a better and better version of yourself in every season of life so you can glorify Him by blessing other men, along with women and children.

We hope this study has encouraged and challenged you as a man. For more free resources or to purchase the “Act Like a Man” book this plan is based on, visit realfaith.com.

About this Plan

Act Like a Man: 9 Ways to Punch Life in the Mouth

Godly men bless women and children and, as a result, the entire family benefits. This 10-day study is going to encourage men, uplift men, speak truth over men, and challenge men. God created men for specific purposes and roles that only they can fulfill. This truth is foundational for men to understand their identity and be a healthy influence in the world.
