Daily Bible Reading—July 2024, God’s Guiding Word: Mercy and ForgivenessSýnishorn
July 1
Introduction
Isaiah 49:1–12: Today’s reading is from a section in the book of the prophet Isaiah that focuses on the new future that God is preparing for the people of Israel. The chapter begins with a description of what the LORD’s servant is called to do. Even though the city of Jerusalem lies in ruins, it will be restored.
Today’s Key Verse: Isaiah 49:8a
The LORD says to his people, “When the time comes to save you, I will show you favor and answer your cries for help.”
Reflect
According to verses 5 and 6, what is the servant’s task? What is your understanding of the servant’s call to be “a light to the nations” (verse 6)? Reread verses 8–12. How is the restoration of Jerusalem described? What does today’s reading teach you about God?
Pray
God of love and restoration, you hear me when I call out to you, and you embrace me in love and revive my spirit. May I reflect the light of your love to all those I encounter today. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
Isaiah 49:13–26: Those returning from exile will rejoice.
