Banish Doubt: Dare to Live Out Your Purpose, a 5-Day Devotional Plan by Arris CharlesSýnishorn
Embracing Your Significance: Your Purposeful Moments Matter
Sometimes, we question whether what we are doing matters and wonder…
"What difference am I making?”
"Am I doing enough?"
"Should I be doing something different?"
"Is what I'm doing aligned with my purpose?”
The doubts that raise these questions cause us to feel insecure about our part in God’s greater plan. We become unclear about the significance of our roles and actions in fulfilling His purpose for us.
Consider the poor widow in Mark 12:41-44. Jesus saw her put only two coins in the temple treasury while many rich people gave large amounts. I imagine she may have had doubts about whether what she gave was enough compared to others. Jesus saw great value in her small offering and faith in giving all she could.
We often encounter limitations in our journey to discover and fulfill our unique purpose. These moments can lead us to question the significance of our contribution.
- Our busy lives are often full of responsibilities and challenges that affect our ability to do something more or different.
- Society might influence us to believe our work has little value unless it is a big achievement or has widespread reach.
- We might feel our efforts do not measure up without holding a formal role in business or ministry.
Like the widow, our smaller offerings are valuable to God. He sees eternal value in each moment we intentionally touch another person's life.
In the world, we feel pressure, but in God, we find peace as we pursue our purpose. Our significance is not based on the formality, size, visibility, or reach of what we do.
We do not have to strive and stress but can abide and rest in God's presence. We can simply commit to using our gifts, abilities, and resources to fulfill what God is calling us to do in each moment.
Every role we play has meaning. Each step we take to grow closer to God, follow His will, or gain clarity and progress in His calling for our lives is purposeful.
We embrace our significance when we recognize that each purposeful moment matters. When we faithfully respond to what God asks, those moments guide us in discovering and fulfilling our unique purpose.
What is something you do that seems too small to be significant? How might God see it as having purpose?
