What Matters Most (The Book of 2 Timothy)Sýnishorn
REFLECT
Based on the true story, We Are Marshall is a movie depicting the aftermath of a tragic university loss. 6 team members and 69 people died in a plane crash upon returning from an out-of-state college football game. An inexperienced, piecemealed team stands side by side at the cemetery, staring at their new coach for direction. This occasion calls for more than a pre-game speech. Something different than an elegy. It’s time for a charge and this coach delivers. He closes the speech with “How you play today, from this moment on, is how you will be remembered. This is your opportunity to rise from these ashes and grab glory.”
As we read chapter 4 of 2 Timothy, notice the immediate change in Paul’s writing tone. He strongly issues a charge to young Timothy. It is as if Paul is delivering his “Marshall” speech: “Be prepared in season and out of season…Keep your head in all situations, endure hardship…”
Choosing to follow Christ is a one-time decision, but it’s also a daily decision. Determine that you will rely on God to create beauty from your ashes and give him all the glory for it!
PRAY
Lord Jesus, keep my head on straight and provide endurance. Let me be remembered as one who followed you with all my heart. Amen.
