SPIRITUAL FREEDOM DOES NOT EQUAL ENTITLEMENT
“I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything.” I Corinthians 6:12
We live in a world where many mindsets believe they are entitled to things, to finances, to preferential treatment. Freedom spiritually is just a new way of living that honors and glorifies God; not oneself.
Mark 7:15 says, “It’s not what goes into your body that defiles you; you are defiled by what comes from your heart.”
Just because we are saved through grace and set free we should never manipulate the meaning of scriptures to justify a lifestyle.. Being a Christian does not entitle us to do things that are contrary to God’s desire for us.
Many times we give up bad habits to only pick them up again, becoming our own worst enemies. It is the human desire to test the waters and to taste and see what we want in life when freedom spiritually can only come when we taste and see that He is good and live to trust Him. Psalm 34:8.
“Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!” When we give God our life and trust Him, He has the power to break the chains of constraint (that which keeps us enslaved to sin).
“For you will break the yoke of their slavery and lift the heavy burden from their shoulders. You will break the oppressor’s rod,” Isaiah 9:4a
PRACTICE: No one wants to think that slavery exists today; it was a horrible act by mankind, yet we fall into its trap through habits, thoughts, and actions. If you do not feel free, bring to the surface that which has you constrained and let God take the wheel.
PRAYER: Lord, we are tired of being weighed down. You and I both know what still keeps me chained and constrained. Father I give (name, each thing) to You. Help me not pick back up that which wants to keep me constrained. Help my spirit feel the beautiful freedom that You desire for me. In Jesus; Name. Amen

A love note found under my pillow and a prayer so powerful! The words on that paper came alive to me. Because I have a physical affliction, I began to realize how we allow things we can’t control to prevent us from being totally, free in Christ! May we learn to remove any constraints that keep us from living in freedom! (Devotional Cover includes picture of the note).
