Real-Life Moments From Exodus

DAY 6 OF 8

God can use YOU

“Have Aaron your brother brought to you from among the Israelites, along with his sons Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, so they may serve me as priests. Make sacred garments for your brother Aaron to give him dignity and honor” (Exodus 28:1,2).

What a vote of confidence for Aaron! I mean, when Moses was called to lead the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt, Aaron was Moses’ right hand and spokesman. Here, he got another honor as the first high priest in the history of God’s chosen people.

You know what’s really astonishing to me? Later in Exodus, Aaron gives in to the will of the people. They lose patience with Moses taking so long on the mountain to get the Ten Commandments and demand a god! So Aaron builds them an idol—a calf made out of their gold.

But it wasn’t astonishing to God. Even though he knew Aaron would do this, he still commanded that Aaron receive garments of honor. Because of God’s love, because of his grace.

It’s the same for us. We’ve been called to serve God and the people around us with the gifts he’s given us, and God knows we will sometimes fall short. Yet he still gives us this vote of confidence, this high honor of doing his work. And now, because of his love and grace, “I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness” (Isaiah 61:10).
