Day 4: Embracing Our Unique Identity
Yesterday we looked at some verses that can help all of us counter the lies of the enemy, but as much as the Bible is full of overarching truths that apply to us all, it is also chock full of reminders that we are all created uniquely.
As we journey through these thoughts on identity, know that God’s plan is not to have an army of Christian clones, but just as He created myriad types of animals and plants and literally all the colours in the rainbow, He created each of us to reflect something unique about Him.
He designed us intentionally from the dawn of time to fill the world with vibrant ideas and varied skills. To have people who can create great feats of engineering, or advance technology or medicine to benefit whole nations and continents, people who make systems and others that burst out with creative words, lyrics and colours, bringing joy and hope to those around them.
With social media holding up a constant mirror of the way we should think, feel and act, coming back to the truth of who He has called you to be is freeing!
Genesis 1:27 ESV - We were made in God’s image. If God is infinite and we are finite, there must be an infinite number of ways that He can make us and still reflect His image!
Psalm 139:13 ESV - We were made intentionally. God knows our form and planned it from before we were born. He didn’t wait to see what the latest TikTok trend was and try to fit us into it.
Exodus 35:30- 36:1 NIV – We are infilled with the Holy Spirit to live out our calling. The artisans called to create the temple fitted no normal job title for their time, but God gifted them differently so that they could do a different task. And they were the first mentioned to receive the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 12:4-30 NIV – We are given different gifts and ways to serve but we are to follow what He has called us to do.
Ephesians 4:11-13 – We are given different roles for the benefit of the whole church. Don’t try to be someone you are not. Not only will you struggle, but the church body will miss out. Be you! Not ‘live your own truth’, but instead ‘Live truthfully who He called you to be!’ Now that is a gamechanger!
