Facing Fatherhood

DAY 3 OF 5

Overcoming a Broken Home Through Faith

Divorce can be a painful experience, often leaving fathers feeling overwhelmed, discouraged, and uncertain about their futures. However, we find hope in the Word of God. In this study, we will delve into 2 Corinthians 4:8-10 and explore how these verses can provide encouragement, hope, and strength for divorced fathers navigating the complexities of life.

READ

2 Corinthians 4:8-10 NLTWe are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies.

REFLECT

Truth in Pain

  • This passage acknowledges that we will experience “troubles” in our lives. Sometimes this will look like emotional pain, financial strain, co-parenting challenges, or the impact of it all on our children. Meditate on the journey. It is easy to push quickly past it because of the pain but take some time to acknowledge the hurt.
  • What has been the most painful part of the journey? Take some time to write down what has brought you the most “trouble.”

God’s Salvation

  • According to this passage, Paul says he was “not crushed, not driven to despair, never abandoned by God, and not destroyed.” How has God's presence provided comfort, hope, and strength in your afflictions?
  • Reflect on moments when you have experienced God's faithfulness and how His presence has sustained you through challenging times.

Renewed Purpose

  • Consider these words from Paul, “our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies.” In what ways do you see that your suffering is making you more like Jesus?
  • Divorce presents an opportunity to rebuild and rediscover one's purpose. In what ways are you being changed to take on a new chapter in your life?

About this Plan

Facing Fatherhood

No one can claim to be an expert dad, but we believe the Bible speaks about and equips us for the role of effective fathering. We have also been given the gift of the Christian community (the Church) to build each other up.
