Daily Bible Reading—June 2024, God’s Guiding Word: PromiseSýnishorn
June 7
Introduction
Genesis 22:1–19: God tests Abraham by commanding him to sacrifice his son Isaac. Abraham obeys, but Isaac is spared and God blesses Abraham because he chose to honor and obey God.
Today’s Key Verse: Genesis 22:12
[An angel of the LORD said]: “Don’t hurt the boy or do anything to him,” he said. “Now I know that you honor and obey God, because you have not kept back your only son from him.”
Reflect
In ancient times, offering a sacrificial animal by burning it was a way to worship God. In response to God’s command, Abraham is prepared to offer as a sacrifice his son, the child of God’s promise. To what do you attribute Abraham’s willingness to do what God commanded? Reread verses 17 and 18. What does God promise Abraham?
Pray
Holy God, whenever I feel that my faith is being tested, I know I can trust you. Teach me to be obedient to your will. In your holy name, I pray. Amen.
