Daily Bible Reading—June 2024, God’s Guiding Word: PromiseSýnishorn
June 20
Introduction
Jeremiah 29:1–23: The prophet Jeremiah delivers a message from the LORD. He reminds the Jewish exiles that they are living in Babylonia because the LORD brought them there. He says that they should settle there, build houses, and create a life for themselves. The people are warned not to be deceived by those who are speaking lies in God’s name. After seventy years have passed, the LORD promises to bring the exiles back home, but those who remained in the land will suffer God’s wrath because of their sinfulness.
Today’s Key Verse: Jeremiah 29:11
[The LORD says]: “I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring you prosperity and not disaster, plans to bring about the future you hope for.”
Reflect
Reread verses 10–14. What promise is made to the Jewish people living in exile? What made this message “good news” for the people in exile? What message of good news can you bring to someone today? Reread verses 15–23. What is the fate of those who remained in the land? What calamities will befall them and why? What do you believe the Lord is telling you today?
Pray
Gracious God, I seek to do your will today and to encourage all I meet. Help me do the work you call me to do in every time and place. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
Jeremiah 32:1–15: Jeremiah is instructed to buy a field.
