GIVE GOD A YES
Give God a yes before you can think of a reason to say no.
I remember when my friends Rachel and Kim first talked with me about the idea of recording my own album. I laughed at the idea and told them they were crazy, but deep down I couldn’t shake the seeds they had planted. These were trusted voices in my life, and they had no personal agenda in encouraging me.
Before Rachel and Kim invited me to lunch, I had never had the desire to record an album. And I definitely didn’t want a record deal! We sometimes grow so comfortable with where we are, that we forfeit the blessings that come with that new thing...even though that may look scary and foggy.
I’ve since learned that any time I run away from something in my life, it comes from a sense of fear: mainly the fear of failure. It goes back to the never-ending battle inside us between fear and faith. But here’s something I deeply believe: It is key to have people in your life you can trust to push you toward your purpose. People who support your success when there’s no benefit in it for them.
I knew at that lunch with my girlfriends that I had heard God telling me it was time for an album. But are we always ready to listen for His voice? He speaks in various ways.
Sometimes His voice comes in the form of an undeniable urge to act.
Sometimes His voice comes in the form of a sign—something you see that ignites a passion inside you to pursue a goal.
Sometimes His voice is audible.
Most often, I’ve experienced God’s voice through others, maybe in the form of a sermon or message or through someone else’s testimony. Or maybe through a loving confrontation like the one I experienced with Rachel and Kim.
No matter how God chooses to speak to you, make sure you’re postured to receive what He’s saying, to say yes before you say no—and then take action.
God, I say yes to You! Yes, to Your call to me. Yes, to your purpose for me. Yes, to your best for me. God, help me to hear Your voice today. Here am I, Lord. Send me! Amen.
