Overwhelmed by My Blessings: Encouragement for Moms Part 7 Sýnishorn
Do you find yourself restless and a little discontent? Like something is missing? You look at your life, and while it’s not all roses and butterflies, you really can’t complain much. Your needs are provided, you have people who love you. You have a Savior who chose you and gave His life for you! You really are needed and known. So, why this void, this loneliness? Why do I sometimes feel like all is right, but something is still missing?
We see a beautiful sunset, or a brilliant rainbow, both so lovely, and yet, it’s just not quite enough. The view leaves a longing in our hearts. Our precious child smiles into our eyes, filling our hearts to bursting, but there is still a nagging that there is more. Like a song that ended without the final note, we are left hanging. Is there something wrong with me?, you ask. Am I losing it? Am I really this ungrateful?
Or, could it be that this lack you are feeling is a longing for the heart of God? Could this deep yearning for more be only a taste of what is to come when we see Him face to face?
Maybe He knows that if we are completely full and satisfied with life on this earth, we won’t ache for more of Him.
We were created for eternity! The life we are living right now is only a passing through, a drip of the forever He has planned for you, for me!
When that feeling of desire and want washes over you, don’t fret or worry. You aren’t losing it. In the void, your Father whispers to you that there is more! Our now is only a glimpse of what will be! Yes, eternity begins the moment we choose Him, but Paradise begins the moment we actually see Him face to face. The final note in the song will be sung! All our longings will be complete and fulfilled.
“The true happiness is that we don't fit. We come from somewhere else.” G K Chesterson
Are you listening for His whispers? Or are you allowing the longing to spiral you into disappointment and dismay?
Father, this excites me to watch for more of you and your glory! Help me remain alert and aware that this holy discontent I often feel is to lead me closer to You, and not into a self-absorbed pity party. May the joy and adventure of discovering more of You lead my days as I watch and listen for You along the way. May all my hope be found in You!
