Countercultural

DAY 13 OF 20

Have you ever been afraid to try something new? Maybe in your school days, you were hesitant to try out for a new team, take on a new hobby, or join a new club. Or maybe in your adult years, you’ve been afraid to take a new job, move to a new city, or make new friends. In the face of that new thing, maybe you let the fear keep you frozen. You didn’t try the thing, or do the work, or go for it because you were afraid. Or maybe you found the courage to push past the fear and do it. If that’s you, then you likely know just how much you would’ve missed out on had you let fear hold you back.

With that in mind, think about what stands in the way of you choosing humility. If we’re honest, for a lot of us, it’s fear. Fear of losing an opportunity, fear of being overlooked, fear of seeming weak, fear of missing out. But what if you chose to look at humility through a new lens? What if you focused on all you’d miss out on if you didn’t choose humility? While it may seem easier said than done, the good news is you don’t have to do it alone. With God’s love, the fear can’t win! You can walk forward and choose to put others first, not with fear, but with love leading the way. Work on memorizing this verse this week—getting this truth in your heart. Let it be your encouragement to push past fear and let God’s love lead you toward a countercultural life.

About this Plan

Countercultural

Jesus had a way of taking ideas that everyone understood and flipping them upside down to show His followers something new. We’re going to look at some of Jesus’ most countercultural ideas and dive into the way they turned preconceived notions and expectations on their heads, ultimately teaching us what it looks like to take Jesus’ lead and follow His countercultural example in our own lives today.
