The Captive Cause - Discover Your CallingSýnishorn
Day 1 – Called to Him
If you have been in church for a while, or even a minute, you will have heard this question... “What are you CALLED to?”
For some people, this question brings with it security and a deep confidence knowing that they are walking in the call that God has on their lives. For others, there is a pressure that mounts with an ominous answer looming that seems just out of reach... what am I called to? And for others, it may land in the ‘too hard basket’, and they just go on living life hoping that what they are doing is their calling, or they will stumble upon it at some point.
Over the next seven days, we are going to explore this idea of Calling. We will ‘bust some myths’ and become confident and secure in the call of God on our lives.
Every person. Called and confident.
Let’s begin with the notion that before anything else, you are CALLED TO HIM. Every definition or understanding of ‘calling’ must have this at its very core.
Calling is less of a destination and more of a revelation. Without this solid foundation of being called to Jesus first, what we do loses significance.
When Jesus initially called His disciples, He called them to Him, not to a career or a project. “Come, follow me,” Jesus says, then the next steps reveal the mission. But first, follow Jesus.
Ephesians 4 reminds us that when we first decided to follow Jesus, we were called to THE ONE. We were called to God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
“There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” (Ephesians 4:4-6)
This faith to which we are called, provides us with the solid foundation on which we can start to work out the rest of our lives; and the purpose and pursuits that we put our hands and feet to for the rest of our lives. This call of faith in God is not set apart from our every day, but an integral part of the life that we live. It impacts all that we do and who we are.
Today's Questions:
1. How does the idea of ‘calling’ sit with you when you hear it?
2. Have you made the solid foundation for your life a call, first to Jesus?
3. What is the Holy Spirit revealing to you today?
About this Plan
"What is my Calling?" If you've been in church for a while (or even a little bit) chances are you've heard this question before... but what does it all mean, and how do we even find our calling? Over the next seven days, we are going to explore this idea. We will ‘bust some myths’ and become confident and secure in the call of God on our lives.
