Mental Health

DAY 2 OF 5

Why am I so tired?

Do you sometimes feel exhausted? The thought of your endless to-do list makes you want to crawl into bed and pull the covers over your head. But despite your exhaustion, you feel a sense of peace. How can it be that you feel so close to God and yet your energy reserves are completely depleted?

There is a healthy exhaustion that Jesus also experienced when he rested after a long hike. God has set times of rest for you from the beginning because our bodies have a limit. We need to give ourselves and our bodies a break so that we don't exceed it. Sometimes, however, you are not physically exhausted, but emotionally. This happens, for example, when you never prioritize your needs. It is a great gift when you make a difference with your love in your family, at your workplace or in your church. But Jesus wants us to love others as we love ourselves. He did not say that we should deny our needs and only care for our fellow human beings.

However, if you always take on tasks that others could also do and never take time to deal with your own problems, you will eventually feel empty inside. Jesus wants you to bring his love to those around you, but you should not forget how important you are. Because Jesus also went to the cross for you and your worries and needs, and he wants to provide you with all the love and acceptance that you need. If you let Jesus and his love fill you up again and again, you will always have enough love and energy for your family, friends and fellow believers.

Your to-do list may seem endless, but that doesn't mean you're trapped in your hamster wheel. Because Jesus has a different perspective on your to-do's and he knows which tasks are really urgent and which can be postponed to a later date without hesitation. Jesus has a calling for you and he will reach your goal together with you. You are not a slave who is supposed to work yourself to death, but his beloved child who is allowed to hand over all burdens to him, because his yoke is easy (Matthew 11:28-30). He guides you to implement what he has planned for you so that you receive his lightness and peace and pass it on. God loves you - love yourself, too!

Next Step: Give God your fatigue and worries in prayer and let him show you what to-do's he has planned for you and what you can cross off your list.
