What Makes God Trustworthy?

DAY 3 OF 5

God is trustworthy because He does not change

Life is constantly changing. Every second of every day, something is changing. The earth spins, the seasons change, and people grow older. Maybe it can feel like nothing is different, until out of the blue, we hear news that shakes us up and it feels like everything has changed.

It can be hard to place our confidence in anything… because who knows what might be different tomorrow?

But Jesus never changes. In fact, in the book of Hebrews, it says that Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. None of us can promise someone that we’ll be the same forever. People often change. It’s in our human nature to change (hopefully for the better).

But God is steadfast and unchanging. If He was good yesterday, He’ll be good today and tomorrow. If He was kind yesterday, He’ll be kind today and tomorrow. If He was trustworthy yesterday, then that means He’s trustworthy today and tomorrow.

Because God does not change, that means there is security in belonging to Him. We can rest in God’s steadfastness. He is steady and secure. Scripture often refers to God as a rock, or an anchor, or a refuge to hide in. No one would find safety in a refuge that was constantly changing. But God does not change.

And because He does not change, He is trustworthy.

Spend some time in prayer with Jesus, considering how He will never change. How could that deepen your trust in Him?

About this Plan

What Makes God Trustworthy?

Trust is not a Christian idea. It’s a human one. We all put our trust into something. The question isn’t: will I trust? The question is: who will I put my trust in? Scripture makes a good case that God is the most trustworthy person you will ever encounter. Join us as we look at five different aspects of God’s character to see what makes Him so trustworthy.
