Learn Rest From the Psalms: Rest Well ResolutionSýnishorn
Look How Far You’ve Come!
Take a minute to reflect on how far you’ve come.
If that feels funny, that’s proof that this devotion is especially for you. The steps you’ve taken and the One you journey with are worth celebrating.
In the past, I neglected celebrating my victories. I’d check the box and move to the next item. Even in success, I’d immediately notice possible improvements. I changed every finish line into a new starting line. This unhealthy habit caused me to miss the beauty of the present, cost me opportunities to rejoice, and made it almost impossible to rest.
Goals and action steps have their appointed time. It’s a good practice to evaluate and continue to improve future efforts. But let’s not run past this current moment right here.
God’s goodness is on display in you.
Today we’re reading from a psalm David wrote to the Lord on the day God rescued him from his enemies.
David celebrated God. He commemorated God’s care and unmatched might.
I love you, O Lord, my strength…my rock…my fortress…my deliverer.
David then celebrated ways the Lord equipped and established him in the work he was entrusted to carry out.
God equipped me with strength…trained my hands for war…Your right hand supported me…You gave a wide place for my steps under me, and my feet did not slip.
Can you relate to David’s song? Look at what God has done! See how far He has brought you!
Not just in what you’ve done together, but in who you are, and who you’re becoming. You’re not the same as you once were.
As you read this today, do you feel like your progress isn’t enough? Are you disappointed by a recent misstep? Even if that’s you… you’re still here. Still growing, still resting in God as your rock and refuge.
See how God still provides a safe space under your feet.
A later psalm connects with this imagery, quoted here in The Message version:
“The minute I said, ‘I’m slipping, I’m falling,’ your love, God, took hold and held me fast. When I was upset and beside myself, you calmed me down and cheered me up.” (Psalm 94:18–19 MSG)
Look where you are. You’re held up, calmed down, and cheered up by the God of the universe.
Take a deep breath as you look around. Tomorrow we’ll get practical with the secret to letting go of goal-setting stress.
