Daily Bible Reading — January 2024, God’s Guiding Word: DiscipleshipSýnishorn
January 27
Introduction
Acts 10:1–33: Peter has a vision in which he is shown that nothing is unclean that God has declared clean. Meanwhile, Cornelius, a Gentile and a Roman officer, has a vision of an angel telling him to invite Peter to his house.
Today’s Key Verse: Acts 10:4b
The angel answered, “God is pleased with your prayers and works of charity, and is ready to answer you.”
Reflect
How is Cornelius described (verses 1–2)? What is he told to do (verses 5–6)? What is Peter’s vision (verses 9–16)? How does he respond to what he is told to do (verse 14)? Were these visions strange or surprising to each of these men? Have you ever been surprised by something God did in your life? In today’s reading, Peter invites Cornelius’s messengers into his home (verse 23); and then Peter is welcomed into Cornelius’s home (verses 24–27). Why was this significant (see verses 28, 29)? In what ways does your community of faith demonstrate hospitality and welcome people?
Pray
Lord God, open my heart and my mind to your Word and to your surprising joys, and to new opportunities to advance your kingdom. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
Acts 10:34–48: Peter proclaims the Good News of Jesus Christ.
