Slowing Down for the SeasonSýnishorn
Find a candle and a lighter or a match.
As you kindle the flame, listen to the sound of the blaze bursting forth, and of the wick catching fire. Watch the smoke as it curls into oblivion. Gaze at the dancing flame and name all the colors of its movement. Notice the particular note of each scent you smell. Carefully, cup the candle with your hands and feel its emanating warmth.
The season of Christmas can get so busy. Lists to complete and gifts to buy and treats to bake and programs to watch and parties to attend…and on it goes. This Christmas, let every candle you see become an invitation to pause to think of the Light which entered the world in the person of Jesus. And remember, the darkness has not overcome this Light. And never will.
Spend some time reflecting on your own life. In what ways has Jesus brought light into your life? What areas of darkness still need to experience the overcoming of his light?

About this Plan
In the hustle and bustle of preparing for Christmas, it can be easy to forget what (and for whom!) this season is all about. These devotionals are an invitation to slow down—even if only for 5 minutes—to read Scripture, engage your senses, and contemplate reflective questions.
