Jesus Style Leadership 4 - Sent & TeamSýnishorn
Finding Team Members
Leadership Lesson
Jesus-style leaders are constantly looking for those with potential to join the team.
Read Acts 9:26-30
Comment
This Scripture describes some of Paul/Saul’s early ministry. (By the way, Paul was probably known as both Saul [among his Jewish associates] and Paul [among his Greek/Roman associates] before he became a Christian.) After his conversion, Paul wanted to join the disciples in Jerusalem, but they were all scared of him for good reason. His previous job had been heading up the Jewish police trying to wipe out Christians, so you can imagine that when he turned up at a church service, he didn’t get a warm welcome from the greeters. They were all terrified of him. Paul’s reputation preceded him. But Barnabas was not put off by Paul’s previous employment. He met with Paul, heard his story, saw his potential, and became his sponsor, introducing him to the church leaders. The rest is history. Without Paul, the gospel would have taken much longer to penetrate the Roman world and we would be missing a fair bit of our New Testament. And without Barnabas, there may have been no Paul on the team. You see Jesus-style leaders are constantly looking for those with potential and inviting them to join the team (even if this potential comes in some unlikely packages).
Prayer
It seems to me that there are many mission and ministry opportunities. We need more people on the team. Please may you continue to call and develop people to serve you. Help us to find them. We need them desperately. Use me as I seek and invest in those with potential and encourage them to join the team. Lead me to those who could be doing more for you.
Personal Reflection
What untapped potential have you seen in someone in the last 6 months and what did you do about it?
