Mantled for Greatness

DAY 3 OF 5

God’s Gift of Miracles

You may be reading this and wondering if miracles are for today. I want to bring your attention to 1 Corinthians 14:12, which says, “Even so you, since you are zealous for spiritual gifts, let it be for the edification of the church that you seek to excel.” The apostle Paul is saying it is good for believers to seek spiritual gifts so we might build up the Church. This is what Paul told the New Testament Church, and that message is still for us today. You have permission to seek after spiritual gifts, provided your motive is edifying others.

A miracle can be humanly impossible, or something that defies or contradicts natural laws. The first recorded miracle of Jesus is found in John 2, where He turned water into wine. It was a powerful miracle because it defied natural laws. The only way something like that could happen was by the God of Israel, the God of wonders!

The Holy Spirit uses different vehicles to bring forth miracles. Some miracles come through prayer, fasting, or through simple faith being stirred up in a room. A miracle can be released by someone sharing their testimony. At times miracles come from a place of worship, and God just moves sovereignly. When you are in a situation needing a miracle, ask the Holy Spirit: What vehicle, what method, what operation do you want to use to bring about the miracle?

Any believer can operate in the working of miracles, but we regularly see this gift coupled with soul-winning. In the New Testament, Jesus healed many who were sick or oppressed, and they in turn believed and followed Him. We also see the Lord using miracles to get the attention of those who did not believe. So, miracles serve a dual function: Building the faith of the Church, those who already believe, and gaining the attention of unbelievers, bringing those people to the door of salvation.

Every miracle Jesus performed was a lesson. Jesus never performed a miracle just to perform it. Whether it was a healing or any other miracle, there was something to be taught to those who received the miracle or those who witnessed it. Through miracles, Jesus revealed God’s glory. Pray that God would use you to show others His glory!

Father, I pray that You would open my eyes to see Your miraculous power working in and through my life. Your Word tells me in Romans 12:6 that spiritual gifts operate within us according to the measure of grace and faith that You give us. Lord, increase Your grace upon my life for miracles, and increase my faith to believe You for miracles. I pray for supernatural occurrences and encounters to manifest in my life and in the lives of those connected to me. Let the gift of miracles be activated and stirred up in my life, that I may bring glory to Your name. Amen.
