The Wedding Gift (S1-E5)Sýnishorn
Makes sense!
Does what Jesus asks of you always make sense? What do you do when Jesus asks things of you that don't make sense at all? Do you start asking questions?
Do you then go your own way?
Perhaps we should answer the following questions first:
Does Jesus ever ask anything of you? If He does, how does that work with you?
He often doesn't ask those questions as literally as He does at the wedding in Cana. In The Chosen He gives a clear instruction. The master of ceremonies then asks the question, Why should I do this? What is the point? Have You heard Jesus what is really needed? We don't need water, we need wine!
The beauty is that Jesus does not reject this but rather encourages it: Keep asking questions. That is allowed and that is good. But do so with a ‘footnote’. Listening to Jesus is not geometry. It's not always logical. It is also about having faith in something and trusting that Jesus knows what He is doing....
Maybe our expectations sometimes get in the way. The expectation that we think we know what we need or the expectation to get an answer to something in a certain way. Are we willing to do something that doesn't make sense to see a miracle?
Let's go back a little and bring it a bit closer to you. "Have you figured it out yet?", Jesus speaks to you too. He wants to speak to you and He does speak. Through thoughts, images and impressions, through other people and, most importantly, through His Word.
It can also be simply by you making choices with Him and experiencing tremendous peace in the process of taking steps in faith.
Jesus wants to walk with you. He wants to be there for you when you need Him. He wants to show you the way. Perhaps you can discover for yourself how He speaks to you. Go on that quest. Discover the way in which Jesus wants to ask you that question that may seem somewhat illogical.
By doing so, room is created for a miracle in your life. If Jesus can turn water into wine, what could He do in your life?
What do you need from God? In what area of your life may Jesus give you a commission to see something miraculous happen?
Take the following questions to ponder:
- In what do you need Jesus to speak to you?
- How does Jesus speak to you?
- Sometimes Jesus' commands don't make sense; do you choose to obey anyway?
Prayer:
"Lord, thank You for wanting to speak to us. Sometimes You ask things that don't make sense. Would You help me to do what You ask of me. Then beautiful things can just happen. Amen."
