Be Careful in What You Do
The generosity and unity of the early Christians is contagious. There’s no room for anything that would disrupt this movement. In the midst of this, however, a married couple plots against the church and pays the ultimate price for their lack of faith.
Read: Acts 4:32-5:11 (NLT)
Explore the Theme: The church held loosely to the wealth of the world and instead took care of one another. Ananias and Sapphira seem to want to contribute. But when it comes time to give the proceeds, they claim to have given everything, but secretly hold on to some for themselves. Peter calls them out individually and they die immediately. As you read this story, what does this show you about God’s character and human nature? How does this view of God challenge you?
Ask God: Ananias and Sapphira appeared to be giving everything, but they were actually being deceitful to those around them. Spend some time asking God to show you your heart’s motives, inviting him in to purify your heart and to make you new.
Live it Out: The Bible tells us that it is the act of confession that leads to true forgiveness and freedom (see 1 John 1:9). What sin-areas in your life need to be addressed in order to find freedom? Since there is cleansing power in confession, find some time this week to confess to a close friend, family member, or maybe even your community group.

About this Plan
(Part one of a four part journey through the Books of Acts.) Even in (and especially in?) hard times, God is present and is working to build His Church. We can find encouragement in this. When circumstances force us to pivot, we don’t have to lose heart - God is with us.
