Finding the Peace You SeekSýnishorn
Are You Scared?
At a recent hairdresser appointment, a woman other than my usual one decided to take over washing my hair. I could tell something was on her mind, so I looked right at her and asked, "Tell me about your life. What moves you?"
Her answer came out of the blue: "I'm afraid all the time, no matter what I do. I’m afraid my best is not enough and never will be. Or even that I'll make mistakes. Or that things will fall apart at home. I’m afraid I'm just not enough myself."
As quickly as she gave me that answer, I knew she had already thought about it a lot. I had watched her many times from a distance, and each time I thought she was a hardworking, beautiful, and talented woman.
What was particularly exciting was that she sought out my closeness and wanted to tell me all this. You see, that day at the salon I had also told her about my own current difficulties because this had been a very turbulent time for me.
Do you know what she saw? "Here is a woman who is experiencing great storms and great peace at the same time."
This is possible for you too! For each one of us! We can experience storms and peace at the same time!
"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." (John 16:33 NIV)
The Word assumes our fears: "In this world, you will have trouble." That's just the way life is; we need to be clear about that. But in the very same verse it also says that even though we will experience times of fear, we can also have peace at the same time. “But take heart, for I have overcome the world."
Yes, you can and should have peace, even when many things may be scaring you right now!
Will you make a new decision today to listen to what Jesus says? To take a moment more out of your day to spend time with Him and what He is saying to you through His Word?
More time with Him means less time with the cares of the world.
You are a miracle!
