Create a Habit of PrayerSýnishorn
We're going to discuss tons of reasons to pray, but let's start here. It is the simplest reason of all: because God says so.
Just like when we were young, if this is the only reason God gave us to pray, it would be enough. There is no reason to make excuses for why you shouldn't have to. There is no questioning the reasoning or saying, "But what if... I'm busy. I'm tired. I don't feel like it. I'm not good at it. I can handle it on my own."
Why are we striving to get out of this? None of these thoughts are what we'd actually say, but isn't this what we are thinking when we don't make prayer a part of our lives when we know God desires us to pray?
1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 tells us it is His will that we will pray without ceasing. And just like mom and dad, it's not to torture us; it's actually for our own good.
Truly, we could end this plan right here with the knowledge that prayer is something God desires in our lives. That is motivation enough to do it, right? Nope. We're sinful, and our enemy preys on our weaknesses, so we need to combat it with all the truth about prayer we can get. I've got tons more to share, but I love starting here.
Let's let this be enough for today. God, who knows vastly more than we do, desires us to pray without ceasing. Let's trust that He knows what He's talking about.
ACTION STEP: Start simple. Set a timer on your phone for 5 minutes, and just pray about anything that is on your heart.
