Warrior EncouragementSýnishorn
Chances are, if you’ve started Warrior Encouragement, you’re either a military member, a military family member, or a veteran. So, a BIG THANK YOU for your service! But this plan isn’t just for military members. It’s for everyone! Let’s face it, we are all in a daily spiritual battle. We may not be on a literal battlefield, but we are fighting spiritual warfare with an all-too-real enemy. This Bible plan, written by a combat veteran, has encouraging life lessons from different Bible stories that will help you grow as a spiritual warrior.
Back in 2011, I was deployed to the northern part of Afghanistan for my first time in a war zone, so I’ll be writing each day’s devotionals based on observations from my time in Afghanistan. One of the best passages of encouragement I encountered while there was Psalm 91, The Soldier’s Psalm.
“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1
Who wouldn’t want to live under the shadow of our great and mighty God? Think how big that shadow must be! This psalm is full of promises for you if you seek God and dwell with Him. Notice it didn’t say “whoever stays for a day” or “whoever visits.” Nope! It says DWELLS, which means to reside or live as a resident. When we start by inviting God into our lives and dwelling with Him, we will reap the benefits.
Looking through the rest of Psalm 91, when you “dwell in the shelter of the Most High,” then...
- God will save you.
- God will cover you.
- You won’t fear.
- You’ll see the punishment of the wicked.
Then it says again, “If you say, ‘The LORD is my refuge, and you make the Most High your dwelling,’” then...
- No harm will overtake you.
- No disaster will come near you.
- God will command his angels concerning you.
- God will guard you.
- God will rescue you.
- God will be with you in times of trouble.
Here’s your homework. Print out Psalm 91! Memorize it! Take it to heart, as if God is writing that psalm to you!
Questions:
1. Do you feel like you dwell in the shelter of God?
2. If you don’t, what would that look like to you?
3. What promise from God really clicked with you from this passage?
