Daily Bible Reading – October 2023, "God’s Saving Word: Justice and Peace"Sýnishorn
October 9
Introduction
Micah describes the punishment that will be meted out to those who abuse their power. The chapter concludes with a promise of hope for those who survive.
Scripture Reading
Micah 2:1‒13
Today’s Key Verse: Micah 2:13
God will open the way for them and lead them out of exile. They will break out of the city gates and go free. Their king, the LORD himself, will lead them out.
Reflect
What is Micah’s warning to those who plan evil? Reread verses 6 and 7. Why do those who are committing evil take issue with Micah’s words? What kind of prophet do they want (verse 11)? What is the reaction to prophetic voices in our society today? What message of hope does Micah deliver (verses 12 and 13)?
Pray
Lord God, like a shepherd, you gather us into your fold. In the security of your love, I find peace and rest. Lead me, Lord, in the way of your justice and truth. Amen.
And now, join us in praying for the young people in Paraguay who are being led to trust God by listening to the audio Bible. Almighty God, navigating the world can be difficult for young people in Paraguay, many of whom have experienced significant worry and grief. But through the generosity of Bible-A-Month Partners, young people have begun listening to the audio Bible with their classmates. The audio Bible is helping them to know you, Lord God, and to trust you even in the difficult moments and trials they face. They are learning more about Jesus and your promises for their lives. We praise you, God, that these young people are building a firm foundation for their lives as they learn to trust and walk with Jesus. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
Micah 3:1‒12: Micah denounces Israel’s leaders.
