Forgiveness God's Way

DAY 2 OF 7

Day 2: Forgiveness Is a Gift from God

Today, we will talk about this wonderful gift from God called forgiveness. A gift is not something we earn, nor is it anything for which we must pay a price. A gift is usually given to someone without that person asking for it. It is something that is given of a free will by the giver. Sometimes, a gift is a surprise to the recipient. Surprisingly, the recipient gets this wonderful thing and is not expected to do or pay anything in return. In some cases, when given a gift, we do not feel like we deserve it. Therefore, a gift is a blessing; it is a good thing, an endowment, a donation, or a bequest pronounced upon us, often unexpectedly and beyond our expectations.

The greatest gift given was made by our Heavenly Father to us, fallen man. That gift is forgiveness of our trespasses and sins. He gave us this gift out of the unending riches of His glory. We have redemption through the blood of Jesus Christ, our Savior, God’s only Son. That is the greatest gift.

Our Heavenly Father loves us far beyond the love anyone in this world could possibly have for us. He loves us unconditionally. There is absolutely nothing we could do to make Him love us any less or any more than He does.

How did God make this gift known to us? How did He convey this gift to us? He saw us in sin and degradation before we even knew we needed a savior. He planned for our redemption before the foundation of the world. He ordained for us to be in relationship with Him, so He redeemed us through the blood of His dear Son, Jesus.

God sent His only Son from heaven into this dark, evil world to take on the form of man and walk the road to Calvary. There, He laid down His life and shed His blood for our redemption. This is the gift of God. It was given for you so that today you may be forgiven of your sins and have access to the throne of grace in prayer, fellowship, and relationship with God your Father. This gift is so freely given that when you come before the Great High Priest, the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords, He stretches forth His scepter to you to let you know that you are welcomed in His presence.

What a great gift! And yes, you do not have to pay Him back for it. It is a gift you did not ask for and do not deserve, but it is yours. You must know that there is no greater blessing that God could have given you than the precious life of His only begotten Son so that in Him you may be redeemed from death and hell and receive forgiveness of sins and everlasting life.

To close out today’s reading, pray that you live your life in a manner that glorifies God. Give thanks to your Heavenly Father for His amazing gift of salvation, and pray that many who have not accepted Jesus as their savior will do so before it is too late.

About this Plan

Forgiveness God's Way

In the Forgiveness God’s Way Plan, Dr. Rosemarie Downer uses the Word of God to highlight the stark distinction between how we often view and practice forgiveness and how God defines forgiveness. This plan invites you to look closely at how God has forgiven us and how we should forgive our offenders.
