Heart Health - Rest
Above your finances, businesses and everything else in your life that you find precious, guard your heart. Doctors tell us that to keep the physical heart healthy and prevent a physical heart attack, there are several things we must do depending on the existing health condition of the body. However, the two things we must do are eat healthy and exercise. Cardio exercises are heart exercises, they ensure heart health. Cardio works on every part of the body as the heart affects every part of the body. There are five spiritual exercises that keep your heart healthy. Five disciplines you and I need to do consistently to ensure that our heart is healthy.
The Exercise of Rest is needed for a healthy heart. When you are not rested, the heart can easily be attacked and you can easily be disillusioned. In 1 Kings 19:1-8, Elijah had a spiritual heart attack. What God did was simply to make Elijah rest—it was an almost infinite loop of eating, drinking and sleeping. That was all he needed. It was not time to speak in tongues, not the time to fast and pray. It was time to rest! All you need most times to get your heart’s perspective back is to rest.
Heart attacks attempt to take us out of our place of assignment when all we need most times is rest. Sadly, like Elijah, some wandered out of the place of their assignment. Some have allowed disillusionment and fear to chase them out of their assignment. The two times God spoke to Elijah, God asked him the same question, “what are you doing here?” I pray in the Name of Jesus, the grace that relocated Elijah will relocate you.
Do you know that we are made to shut down for a third of our lives? That means that if you are forty-five years old, you would have slept for a third of your life, which is fifteen years. If you are thirty years old, you would have slept for ten solid years of your life. I believe that God is sending us a big message. The message is if you do not rest, you cannot be at rest and your mind will be in turmoil. So, take a breather and just rest.
