Good news is contagious.
When you get into the school or trade-program of your choice, what do you do? Post to social media dressed in merch. When your crush reciprocates feelings for you and asks you out, what do you do? Text your best friend immediately. A natural byproduct of finding out good news is sharing it with those in our sphere of influence. We become giddy with excitement to share great news with other people. Oftentimes, we want them to celebrate with us or share in that same joy.
The same should be true when we receive the good news of the gospel of Jesus. We ought to be ready to share that good news with others. Let’s be honest here, there is no greater decision that anyone can make than to put their faith in Jesus Christ and surrender their life to Him. And through scripture we also know how much power there is in the Holy Spirit. Should you choose to follow Jesus, you are choosing to go from death to life. There is no greater news. We must share that with the rest of the world.
Not only should we want to share the good news, it’s actually one of the commandments Jesus gives the disciples. Their mission after he ascended to Heaven was to go and start his church. Spread the good news among all the nations and all the world. And that is also what we are called to do. Every Christ follower has been called to share the gospel and help make disciples. You have been entrusted with this good news, what you do with it matters. So get up, get off the sidelines, and go live out the gospel. Go and share the good news of Jesus Christ with the world so that others may experience His love, His goodness, His grace, and His mercy.
Reflection Questions
- Head — An aspect of Jesus’ command is to share the gospel with those who share different backgrounds than you. How does this impact the way you understand sharing the gospel?
- Heart — As you reflect on your own journey, who was bold enough to share the gospel with you? What did your life look like before the grace of God met you?
- Hands — Who can you share the good news with in your sphere of influence? If this is your first time doing it, it may be helpful to reflect on these things:
- Who is one person in your neighborhood, school, sports team or club that doesn't know Jesus? Begin praying for them. Ask the Lord for an opportunity to share with them.
- Many of us are too concerned with saying everything perfectly. Remember, you are simply sharing how the story of Jesus (sinless life, death, burial, and resurrection) changed your story. How has God made you new in Christ?
- Leave the results up to the Lord. All we can do is be obedient and invite others to experience the mercy we’ve received. Only Jesus is able to change hearts.
About this Plan
The good news, or gospel, is absolutely central to faith in Jesus. For some of us, the details around the gospel can seem foggy; to some it's a way to avoid hell, or maybe to others it's a piece of advice for your life. In this study, we will dive into what it means to be equipped with the good news of Jesus.
