Day 2: Seek God Over Money:
The first nine chapters of Proverbs are spoken as if a father is teaching his son the difference between right and wrong living. He is teaching him to actively pursue wisdom. For us reading, He is teaching us how to actively pursue wisdom through the word of God.
In the story the son is learning from his father, but in our current world we learn from the Holy Spirit, wise counsel and the word of God.
We know that a father is giving direction to his son in this book because he starts the chapter with “ MY SON” and proceeds to give direction.
How many times have you been in a tough spot financially and sought after everyone’s advice except for God’s? And if you did seek him, was he your first or last option?
In Proverbs 2:4-5 (AMP) the father says to the son, "If you seek skillful and godly wisdom as you would silver... Then you will understand the [reverent] fear of the Lord [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] And discover the knowledge of God." The word silver used in Proverbs 2:4 is another word for money.
In simple terms, there are major benefits and protection when you seek God instead of seeking people, money or other things for answers only God can give.
When we fear the Lord, honor Him, and seek Him first before we go to our friends, jobs, the loan company and other things, in return He will give us wisdom, knowledge, and anything else we need to gain more of what we need.
This verse is saying that money is only a resource, a tool given to us by the Source, the Lord, our provider. God always has the answer to your money issue. Seek him!
Make Him Lord over your life. Chase him instead of money and watch Him do the unimaginable in your life!
