Refined Through the Pain

DAY 2 OF 5

Comfort Amidst Your Heart’s Cry

An excruciating pain

A stretching

A cry

Voice dry, trying your best to numb the pain,

Was not all in vain.

For His hand was within reach,

Holding you together

Singing to you

In a small, still voice

That comforts your soul,

Til you see the beauty of it all.

Some days feel like everything is falling apart.

Days where worship songs become harder to sing and praying feels more difficult to do. Longing for moments we can scream how we truly feel. But then there are glimmers of hope... where we want to praise and declare who God is.

That's the balance that David demonstrates. That we can be hurting but still hopeful - and vice versa.

At the beginning of Psalm 5, David passionately expressed his hurt and his grief, and lifted his cry for help. Yet, he chose to wait. We then see in Psalm 40 that David praises God for delivering him, but then in verses 11-17, David finds himself again crying out to God to deliver him from his hurt.

In the same breath that we acknowledge God's sovereignty, we can acknowledge reality.

Doing so gives us room to receive comfort that only God can give. Hear the song He sings over us and live out the promise in Psalm 40:4, "Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust."

Keep crying out to Him, confronting reality. He is waiting to welcome you.

Keep hoping in Him. And know that no matter how faint, desperate, broken, or inaudible your heart’s cry is, He will make a beautiful melody out of it.

Prayer:

Oh Lord, my Father, though it's hard to find the words when everything feels as though it's crumbling, will You help me to lean into You even more and trust You? Give me the strength to confront my fears and share my heart with You because You care about me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Reflection:

Are you in what feels like a storm right now? Tell God what is happening that you didn't think would, and ask Him to help you see where He is in this.
