Daily Bible Reading – August 2023, God’s Saving Word: EncouragementSýnishorn
August 9
Introduction
Paul warns the Philippians to be on guard against those who do evil things and about putting their trust in external ceremonies. He describes the journey of faith in terms of running toward a goal, and the chapter concludes with Paul expressing his eagerness to wait for Jesus Christ to come from heaven.
Scripture Reading
Philippians 3:1-21
Today’s Key Verse: Philippians 3:12b
I keep striving to win the prize for which Christ Jesus has already won me to himself.
Reflect
What does Paul say he reckons “as loss” (verse 7)? What does he now consider valuable? What is the “goal” toward which Paul is running (verse 14)? Paul once again refers to Christ’s return (verses 20 and 21). What does he say will happen? In verse 20, Paul says that we are “citizens of heaven.” What does being a citizen of heaven mean to you?
Pray
Lord Jesus, knowledge of you as my Lord is priceless and beyond measure. May I be completely united with you, and I pray that you will grant me the righteousness that is given through faith in you. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
Philippians 4:1-23: The apostle Paul gives final instructions to the Philippians.
