The Gospel: God
Maybe someone has said to you, “The world doesn’t revolve around you.” What they are really trying to tell you is that you’re not as important as you think you are. Your greatest accomplishment and greatest failure will not alter the orbit of the planet even one bit. When we ponder the majesty, greatness and glory of God we are left feeling quite small. Our human nature makes us feel like we deserve the spotlight much more than we really do. In actuality, all of the spotlight belongs to God.
The point is this: God is the center of it all. You and I aren’t. We like to think that we are the apple of God’s eye and that is all that matters, but we are just a part of God’s miraculous creation. He is outside creation, outside our physical limits. He is over, in and through everything. The Gospel is all about God. Indeed, everything in and bordering our galaxy revolves around God.
God is our transcendent Creator. He made everything out of nothing. You and I can’t do that. We can only be sub-creators, working with the hard materials that God has already given us.
God knows everything – every grain of sand, every language ever spoken, the sound of every wave that has ever crashed on an ocean shore. He knows it. He also knows you. He knows you better than the sum total of all the people in the world that have every known you. If everyone that knows you compiled detailed notes about you, it wouldn’t scratch the surface of what God knows about you.
God is everywhere. Look to your right, boom. He is there. Look to your left, boom. He is there. You and I are limited in that we can only be in one place at a time. God isn’t. The next time that you feel misunderstood or neglected by God, know that it’s impossible because God is everywhere.
God is a transcendent Creator. This means he creates without limit or opposition. His knowledge is without end and His presence is infinite. Would you trust a God like that to come up with a plan to rescue you? Or would you rather concoct your own salvation plan based on your ability to create, your ability to know, and your finite status? Are you feeling pretty small? Yup, “the world doesn’t revolve around you.”
This is the Gospel: God, limitless in authority and power was determined to provide an adequate solution to the disastrous pain of sin. The separation that sin has caused between humanity and God needed resolve. Jesus came to be the perfect and full payment for sin. We can enter back into harmonious relationship with God through faith in Jesus and true repentance.
Prayer
God, in light of Your majesty, glory and power, I choose to submit to Your leadership. I lay aside my fascinating plans to put my life back together and I choose to let Your Gospel realign my heart, soul and mind. I want my every desire, every action and every moment to revolve around You.
