Women in the Easter StorySýnishorn
Looking With Eyes of Faith
On the third day after Jesus’ death, several women went to the tomb. The women were “perplexed” when they couldn’t find Him. But an angel said, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?” (Luke 24). You see, Jesus told His followers that He would rise in three days, but instead of looking for Christ with eyes of faith, they only believed what they had seen.
Isn’t that how many Christians live? Instead of believing the promises of Christ and living in anticipation that He will keep His word, we so often sit back and wait in despair in the midst of difficult circumstances. We meet every miracle with skepticism, not wanting to appear foolish.
Bible scholar Matthew Henry correctly observed, “Good Christians often perplex themselves about that which they should comfort and encourage themselves.”
Instead of meeting each promise with doubt, we should actively look for the fulfillment of God’s Word. Jesus said, “Seek, and you will find” (Matthew 7:7). When we deliberately seek to find the blessings of God each day, we will most assuredly find them.
Janet is a Christian mom who is teaching this concept to her children. Each day that Janet drops off her kids at their schoolroom door, she looks deep into their eyes and says, “God has wonderful things planned for you today. Look for them.” She wants her children to be aware of the many ways God speaks to us throughout the day—the beauty of creation, an understanding friend, an encouraging word.
We so often miss the blessings if we don’t look for them. We find exactly what we are anticipating to see—action and reaction. But God has wonderful things planned for all our lives. When you stop looking for what our natural eyes see and start looking for the supernatural, you might be surprised what you find!
Discuss: Make a list of the possible ways that God could be giving blessings to you today. Has a special verse come to mind? Did you feel impressed to pray for someone? Did God answer a prayer recently, even something small? What are some other ways God has given a revelation to you or a friend in the past?
