Sex & Sexuality - God’s Ways vs. The World’s WaysSýnishorn
What Has Shaped Your Views on Sex and Sexuality?
Where is it more appropriate to talk about sexuality than in the presence of the One who created it?
Gradually, through learning about sex through movies and music, hearing friends talk about it, and through my own choices and experiences, I had come to accept and live according to what the world said about sex. When I came back to God, I needed to go back to the beginning and hear the truth again. I had believed that my sexuality was something that I had to keep away from God, rather than acknowledge it as part of His design that He called good.
Talk with Jesus
As you read today’s verses, bring these questions to Jesus and talk with Him about them.
- What does sex mean to me? Is my view of sexuality mostly biblical or has it been shaped by other influences (such as culture, friends, education, the internet, movies and shows, music, social media, etc.)?
- How have my experiences compared with God’s plan for sex? Who or what shaped these experiences?
- Is there anyone I need to forgive? Do you know that you can forgive someone even if they never ask for forgiveness? We forgive by faith as a response to God’s forgiveness of us. (In the PureHeart Challenge—Plan 2, we will be walking through forgiveness of past sexual partners.)
At any point during the PureHeart Challenge, if you feel the need for prayer, counseling, or deliverance please do not hesitate to get help. Contact a trusted friend, mentor, or professional counselor. Many of these deeper issues do not heal themselves over time, but Jesus came to save, deliver, and heal! This is what is available to each one of us.
Prayer: Lord, I want to know what You intended for sex. I want to throw off any definitions of sex that I picked up along the way that are not Your heart. I forgive any person who influenced the way I viewed sex in an ungodly way.
About this Plan
So many of us have learned about sex and sexuality through media, friends, or our own experiences. Let’s discover what God says and how to walk in His ways. This is PART 1 of the PureHeart Challenge—a 5-Part Bible Plan for men and women on the topic of sexuality and purity.
