DAY 2 OF 14

PROCREATION & DESTRUCTION

Today's passage can be a boring list of names with some numbers near them. Reading this, it’s amazing to know that somebody did keep a record those days. People lived for decades. They missed a century by a whisker! Why were only some recorded, even when there were many others on the earth at that time? Why were they noticed? It’s a safe assumption to make that the author wanted to record the life of Noah and came up with his family tree and recorded it.

Why was Noah special? He chose to obey God when circumstances weren’t favorable for what God wanted him to do. Can we be a Noah today? All we need to do is choose to obey the Lord and His commands. Choose to live what we believe. Choose to take the time needed to find out what God wants us to become and work on it even when those around us don’t understand the big picture. I can promise you it’s going to be a challenging, long, mysterious assignment. Imagine building a boat nowhere near water anticipating rain when there's no sign of rain.

The important thing, God came through and kept his promise. Things went to God’s plan. As Noah obeyed, it worked out fine for him, or else he would have gone unnoticed like the many others who were destroyed by the flood. Not only would Noah be unknown, we would not have known about people from his family.

Today you may be feeling down like you don’t matter to anybody. Maybe you are wondering if it is actually worth trusting and obeying God at the cost of family, friends, maybe your job, or any situation you are in because of your faith. God knows you. When you obey God, you and your family will be known to God. Our names will be recorded in the book of life.
