Daily Bible Reading – July 2023, God’s Saving Word: Mercy and ForgivenessSýnishorn
July 18
Introduction
Accusations against Israel and its priests are cited. The priesthood is accused of causing Israel's failure to abide by their covenant with God.
Scripture Reading
Hosea 4:4-19
Today's Key Verse: Hosea 4:9b
[The LORD says to the priests:] "I will punish you and make you pay for the evil you do."
Reflect
Priests were responsible for educating the people (Leviticus 10:10, 11), but they have neglected their duties. What accusations are directed to the priests and what will be their punishment (verses 4-10)? What pagan practices are cited (verses 11-13)?
Pray
Holy God, I acknowledge you as the one true God. I seek to follow and obey your teachings. Guide me this day as I seek to grow in knowledge of you. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
Hosea 6:1—7:2: The people’s repentance is insincere.
