Sleepless

DAY 2 OF 5

Find peace in the sleeplessness.

Every time I have a goal, when I have something on my heart that I'd like to pass on through another book, new music, or even ideas for A Miracle Every Day, there they come again: sleepless nights.

That's how I know how tedious it is when you're completely beside yourself and feel you can't work with clarity, let alone creativity. Maybe you're a mom and start thinking to yourself, "How am I going to be there for my kids today?" Or maybe you have to give a presentation at work, but your mind is completely muddled.

That's when we're to find peace in the turmoil. "How is that supposed to work?" you're probably wondering right now! David tells us in the Psalms how he did it. He used his sleeplessness for time with God:

"I lie awake thinking of You, meditating on You through the night. Because You are my helper, I sing for joy in the shadow of Your wings. I cling to You; Your strong right hand holds me securely." (Psalm 63:6-8, NLT)

Here are three important keys when you can't sleep:

  1. Think about God…let your mind wander to Him only.
  2. Remember that He has always helped you and will help you again tomorrow (despite your tiredness).
  3. Praise Him! Yes, exactly…in your sleeplessness! By doing so, you will subconsciously cling to Him. You'll see how He will still use you and carry you through the next day!

Rest is not perfect sleep. Rest is seeking God's nearness despite all circumstances. Even when you're lying sleepless in bed. I'd encourage you to take these three steps and simply ask God in that moment, "What do You want to show me?"

Be reassured…God has GOOD things planned for you!

You are a miracle!

Are you familiar with sleepless nights? When you can count sheep all you want, but nothing happens? I've been there many times, both when I was struggling with depression and afterward. I'd like to share my experiences and thoughts with you in this upcoming series.
