Disciple: A Deep Dive on What It Means to Follow Jesus

DAY 2 OF 6

Sus No More.

Story time! Once there was a guy who accepted Christ into his life. He was happy at first and noticed some changes in his life. But soon doubts began to creep into his mind, especially as he noticed that he still had struggles in some areas of his life. Doubts would multiply as he would remember some of the wrong things he had done in the past. He would say, “Maybe I’m not forgiven. Do I really have eternal life?”

As can we see, this man does not have a correct understanding of his relationship with God. Having no assurance of something important would make a person feel insecure.

How can we have assurance and security in our relationship with God?

Our relationship with God is like a father-child relationship. John 1:11-13 describes a child of God. Being born in a Christian family/home does not make the child a Christian. A person does not become a Christian by doing good things, helping others or attending religious gatherings. A child of God is someone who receives Jesus, a person who believes in the name of Jesus. Do you know if you are a child of God?

Our relationship with God is one of total forgiveness. God forgave all our sins and nailed them to the cross with Jesus. Through what Jesus did, God has cancelled the record of all our sins —all of your sins. Are there any sins that you could commit that are not already paid for? None.

Our relationship with God is eternal. When Jesus talks about His sheep in John 10: 27-30, He is referring to children of God, His followers. Jesus talks about the promise of eternal life, not perishing eternally, and the security of no one shall snatch children of God out of Jesus’ hand.

Can you ever lose your relationship with our Heavenly Father? As you have read, your relationship with our Heavenly Father is secure and permanent.
