DAY 3 OF 5

When You Feel Like You're Falling Apart

What are you trying to keep together right now that feels dangerously close to falling apart? Whether it’s a calendar you’re juggling, a situation at work that hangs in the balance, your marriage, or another relationship, when the pieces of your life feel like they’re falling apart, that anxiety reaches into every other part of your life.

When we find ourselves in the middle of these messes, we try to figure it out, catch up where we feel like we’re falling behind, or just keep going. But the truth is that none of those options really solve anything when the fibers of our lives start to unravel.

Maybe you’re wondering what in the world this could possibly have to do with belonging. Well, there is good news.

The wholeness of Christ holds us together, even when life falls apart. Ephesians 2 says, “He himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility … and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility” (Ephesians 2:14, 16, ESV).

Because we belong to Jesus, we have a common bond, the bond of peace. The problem, though, is that we don’t always hold on. When life becomes fragile and the pieces start to shake, we pull away from each other. Our common enemy tells us no one thinks or cares about us, and we wonder if anyone would even notice if they never heard from us again. It feels safer to hide from others.

But today, I want to give you another option. When life feels like it’s falling apart, we can press into the body of Christ instead of pulling away from it. The key to keeping it together is coming together. As Paul put it, “Make every effort to keep the oneness of the Spirit in the bond of peace [each individual working together to make the whole successful]” (Ephesians 4:3, AMP).

Tell God about the places in your heart that make you want to pull away instead of pressing into the body of Christ. Ask Him to answer with His truth your fears, your hurts, or the places that are falling apart in your life.

About this Plan

She Belongs

You may be thinking about all the frustrations you’ve had with people lately. In light of that, you may think you can do fine on your own. But our quest to keep it together will eventually cause us to fall apart. This plan will show that peace, security, and purpose come in their fullness only when we engage with other believers within the body of Christ.
