Unrivalled: Christ the Ultimate InfluencerSýnishorn
Day 10: Worshipping as God’s Saints
Have you ever trained for a full marathon of 42km? When training to run a full marathon, it is recommended that a runner builds his weekly mileage by running three to five times a week, covering a total distance of 50km, and clocking a long run of around 20km once every ten days. On top of this, he has to ensure adequate rest and recovery. In short, once one decides to train for a marathon, he has to discipline himself and live differently from others.
Likewise, as God’s saints who have acknowledged Christ as our Lord, we are called to live differently due to our new identity. This is also what Paul exhorted the Colossian church to do – to put on a new set of behaviours that reflect their identity and gratitude towards God. This includes showing attributes such as compassion and kindness (v12), forgiving one another (v13), maintaining harmonious relationship as a body of Christ (v15), letting the word of Christ dominate all that we do (v16), and doing everything in the name of Christ (v17).
This is, in essence, what our worship should truly look like. Beyond singing worship songs to God during the weekly church services, we are to worship God daily by examining every detail of our lives and applying God’s word in our families, workplaces, social circles, and communities. Only when we worship God in such a manner can the world see what a revived church truly looks like.
How are you worshipping God with your life today? Take time to ponder about whether your life reflects the godly attributes Paul exhorted the Colossian believers to put on as God’s people. Perhaps you have not treated your spouse with compassion and kindness. Perhaps your parents have exasperated you in the past, and you have not forgiven them. Maybe you have wronged your brothers and sisters in church, but you have not made peace with them. Whatever your situation may be, you can put on a new self in Christ and worship God in whatever you choose to do from this day on.
Prayer Points
- Are there new attributes that God has been asking you to cultivate in your life? Is it compassion? Is it humility? Is it gentleness? Is it patience? Is it forgiving somebody? Whatever they are, ask the Lord to give you the wisdom and grace to live them out.
- As we continue preparing for the conference, let us ask the Lord to cultivate within us a heart of worship. We shall worship the Lord through our lips without inhibitions. We shall worship the Lord through our actions and lives. We shall glorify Jesus together. Amen!
