Tarah-Lynn Saint-Elien: She Reigns Devotional Day 2
“The Purest Way”
Scripture reading: Psalm 139:23-24; Matthew 5:8; 1 Peter 1:15-16
God has called us to live just lives. First Peter 1:15 says, “But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy.”
Thank God we have sanctification as our purification process. The cleaning agent of sanctification is activated through our obedience. The more we obey God’s Word, the more we become like Christ—holy and faultless in every way.
I believe King David, known as the man after God’s own heart, demonstrates what it best means to be pure. He shows us that purity is to truthfully seek the face of the Lord (Psalm 24:6).
Even with all his mistakes, he pursued God. He sought God when he was scared, sought God when he was angry and rejected, sought God in repentance. He knew what it meant to dwell in God’s presence in good times and bad.
Purity does not equate to what the world deems perfection. Rather, it means we armor up against any sinful habits, thoughts, and actions and put them to death in order to come alive in Christ. His grace makes purity attainable. If purity wasn’t possible, we wouldn’t be presented the opportunity to see God, as Matthew 5:8 promises.
To my lovely perfectionists out there, free yourself from that pressure! It is God alone who purifies us. He gives us grace for the times we fall and allows us into His presence to try again and again with Him. A pure heart is the willingness to change, the willingness to serve and obey. It is the willingness to ask God to search our heart, cleanse it, and lead us in everlasting ways.
How can you invite the Holy Spirit to help you embrace His purification process?
